This is an original handmade linocut print depicting a three-legged crow, based on the story of legendary archer from Chinese legend, Hou Yi. In the beginning, there were 10 suns that took turns going across the sky. One day, all 10 suns came out and started to burn the world. So the King of Heaven asked Hou Yi to take care of the problem. After unsuccessfully trying to convince them to go back to taking turns, he shot 9 out of 10, sparing the last one. As the suns fell to earth, they turned into three-legged crows.
Image is printed on handmade Nepalese lokta paper.
The process of linocut involves carving out the excess of a design from a block of linoleum. A thin layer of ink is rolled onto the finished stamp and then the inked stamp is pressed into paper. Pressing involves a large flat press but often has to be finished with hand-burnishing with a baren. Due to the way the hand-pressing process works, there are slight variations between each print such as texture or stray marks. Each print is unique in that way, which is what makes linocut printing the way it is.
Please allow 2-3 business days after ordering for the item to ship. Art is unframed and shipped in a flat envelope with chipboard backing.
